Product Manager

Job summary

At Revolution Viewing, we empower people to make life-changing decisions – this is our mission.

We do this by producing solutions to help prospective students select their perfect university and home buyers to select their perfect home. Our clients are universities and top home builders from across the UK and in our specialist fields we are the leading supplier in both sectors.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and well-organised individual to join a talented team at a very exciting time in our company’s growth. Building on the 15+ years of experience we’ve had creating Virtual Tours for universities and a research programme that looked to establish what prospective students really wanted, in February 2021 we launched our new virtual experience platform, Vepple.

Now in use by more than 20 UK universities, we’re looking for an experienced Product Manager to help us develop the platform to ensure that we become the go-to provider of university online virtual experiences not just in the UK, but globally. We’re looking for someone who can deliver and improve on our vision for what Vepple could be. It’s an exciting platform and we can’t wait to see it grow both in terms of user base and also functionality. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the product roadmap and making it a reality; they should be passionate about user experience and ideally, Higher Education.

We think Vepple will be a game-changer for prospective students when making the choice as to which university they should attend. Vepple will also make a huge, positive difference for universities – each of which are seeking more effective ways to convert leads and deliver ROI. With a couple of years of data proving the effectiveness of the platform and positive feedback from clients to date, it’s an incredibly exciting time to join the team as the opportunities for growth are huge.

You will report to Jonny (our CTO), working closely with him, the wider development team (Lead Developer, Web Developer and Junior Front End Developer) and the higher education client services department.

Work-life balance manifesto

The feedback we receive from our team suggests that this is an unusual policy for such a business, hence the mention here in the job spec.  This is from Tom, our CEO: “You will get paid for any extra hours that you work or you will be given the time back.”  Quite simply, you will never be asked to work more hours than contracted, without receiving that time back in lieu or being paid overtime.

Ten reasons to apply for a role with Revolution Viewing

  • We have a Work-life Balance Manifesto that is policy!
  • Our team tell us RV is a great place to work
  • We produce sector-leading products
  • Our clients love what we do (Homebuilder side of the business has NPS of 83!)
  • Every six weeks we have a whole team catch-up / social
  • Complete work-life flexibility: home, hybrid, office – it’s your choice!
  • Individual objectives set in annual appraisals and progress reviewed in monthly 1:1 meeting with your line manager
  • Potential for a team-wide bonus from our RV Bonus Scheme
  • We share our strategy, including mission, direction and financial progress
  • We offer a thorough induction and comprehensive training for your career

Our core values

These values are a key consideration when hiring a new team member; we need to feel each team member shares these values:

  • Respect for people
  • Vibe (contribution to a great)
  • Sustainable progression (we don’t make rash decisions that jeopardise the company)
  • Honesty & integrity
  • Innovative & dynamic
  • Passion & pride (in all we do)

    Your role

    A Day in the Life

You’ll start the day on our morning virtual stand-up, an opportunity to say hi to colleagues but also for everyone to run through what they’re working on and highlight any blockers. One of the devs has a question on how to proceed with a particular feature – you quickly discuss it as a group and then make a decision. After you’ll finish writing the questions for the student focus groups that are taking place next week – this particular session is going to be building on the feedback you’ve received from an online survey that’s offered a hypothesis that you’d like to test. After a quick brew, you’ll be tweaking a couple of tickets on Jira that you’d written the week before but the devs had flagged that something had been overlooked. Once complete, you’ll prepare an up-to-date export of Vepple’s roadmap to be featured in next month’s Board pack. After lunch, you’ll need to review a couple of features that are sat on our QC environment to make sure that they’re up to scratch. They’re generally very good but there are a couple of minor tweaks that’ll make them better so you add some notes to the ticket and then send them back to be resolved. Next, you join a call with one of our Account Managers who’s talking to an existing client about how they’re using Vepple. You’re mainly listening to hear how Vepple’s working for them but sometimes you’ll ask questions to better understand barriers/opportunities. After the call, you’ll log this feedback in the relevant place, considering if there are any actions required off the back of the call and if anything on the roadmap needs changing as a result. The last job of the day is to hop on another call to review designs for the new feature that the devs are likely to be working on soon. The designs look great and you’re happy to sign them off. You update the relevant ticket in Jira to confirm that this is now ready to be worked on by the developers.
